In 2024, Phil Mason commenced the Sonship School of Divinity, an online training course offered by Quantum Ministries. The course is being taught over four consecutive terms. Here are the four modules that constitute the entire course.
Term One: The Upgrade in the Upper Room: The Birthplace of Apostolic Community
Term Two: I Will Not Leave You as Orphans: The Journey into Mature Sonship
Term Three: Bringing Many Sons to Glory: Sonship, Theosis and Immortality
Term Four: Sending Beloved Sons: Apostolic Divinity in Motion
As each separate module is completed, it will be made available on this website. Eventually, each module will be accompanied by a book. The first book, The Upgrade in the Upper Room: The Birthplace of Apostolic Community, was published in late 2023. The additional three books will be published throughout the second half of 2024. Each module will be presented as a 16-lecture series.
The Sonship School of Divinity is a deep dive into the New Testament theology of our adoption as sons and the Father’s mission to bring many sons to glory. The vision to launch this online school was birthed out of an encounter I (Phil) had at Oxford University in late 2023. I visited the Oxford School of Divinity and was greatly unsettled to discover that this hallowed hall had been co-opted as a set for the Harry Potter films. Everywhere I went in Oxford, I was confronted by Harry Potter memorabilia, and it wasn’t hard to recognize the agenda to transform the School of Divinity into an occult school of divination and witchcraft.
Tragically, the ancient hall, built in the 1400s and named “the loveliest room in England’ is now synonymous with Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. There is a clear agenda to transform Oxford into a pagan center of learning. While I was there, I cynically described it as the ‘Occultification of Oxford.’
The Divinity School within Oxford has also undergone a gradual shift toward the broader Study of Religions as a consequence of centuries of liberal influence in theological studies. I was deeply grieved to see these developments, and the sense of loss was overwhelming.
During my visit to the Divinity School building, I had a profound encounter with God. Since October 2023, I have been unpacking this encounter, and it has deeply influenced my perspective. As a trained theologian with a self-confessed obsession with transformational theology, something powerful was ignited in my heart whilst sitting in the Divinity School.
Revelation is positional. God must move us into a new location (sometimes even physically) to hear His whispers. He invited Jeremiah to go to the Potter’s House. “Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to hear My words.” (Jeremiah 18:2) It was there Jeremiah heard the Word of the Lord. No doubt, Jeremiah’s prophetic encounter with the Lord took some time to unpack. I am still unpacking everything that was deposited in my spirit while sitting in the hallowed hall of the Oxford Divinity School. I felt as though I had received a significant impartation and a fresh vision.
I came away from this divine encounter with a fresh commissioning to promote Christ’s true School of Divinity, a school that began 2,000 years ago, through which Christ called His students to participate in His divine nature and ministry, particularly the call to a mature expression of divine sonship on earth. Jesus said, “A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher!” (Luke 6:40 NIV)
The divinity of Christ is expressed through mature sonship, and this sonship, in turn, is expressed through the kingdom ministry skills of Christ. He came to heal the sick, to break demonic oppression, to heal broken hearts, to activate the Spirit of prophecy, and to establish His followers in the life-changing power of His glorious gospel. This is the true School of Divinity, and it is far broader in its scope than an academic study of Scripture. This school has now stood for thousands of years, but it is often poorly attended and sometimes completely neglected.
Christ’s School of Divinity transforms spiritual orphans into mature sons and daughters who carry the kingdom as agents of divine transformation. It has always been in the Father’s heart to send forth a generation of beloved sons and daughters who powerfully express the divinity of Christ. The Father is bringing many sons to glory so He can send them forth as carriers of the glory of divine sonship. He who is Divine became human so that humans might participate in His Divinity. He became everything we are so that we, by His grace, may become everything that He is. Through our total participation in the Sonship of Christ, we become, by grace, all that God is by nature. The early church fathers understood this and defined the journey as theosis or divinization, the journey of being conformed to the glorious image of Christ, the beloved Son of the Father. This is the essence of the Christian life. If we fail to get on board this train of Intentional Sonship, we will find ourselves endlessly standing at the station, wondering where we are going.
I would like to invite you to join me on this journey in 2024 as we explore what it means to enter Christ’s School of Divinity with the hope of graduating as mature sons and daughters. Every Christian has an unimaginable destiny in this life. St. Paul and St. John the Divine lead the way and have already laid out the curriculum. Paul said, “The entire universe is standing on tiptoe, yearning to see the unveiling of God’s glorious sons and daughters!” (Romans 8:19 TPT) Later, in the same chapter, Paul presented his vision of theosis.
For He knew all about us before we were born, and He destined us from the beginning to share the likeness of His Son. This means the Son is the oldest among a vast family of brothers and sisters who will become just like Him. Having determined our destiny ahead of time, He called us to Himself and transferred His perfect righteousness to everyone He called. And those who possess His perfect righteousness, He co-glorified with His Son! (Romans 8:29,30 TPT)
